Iran Press/ Iran News: Ebrahim Raisi was delivering a speech during a ceremony on the occasion of the beginning of the agricultural year 1401-1402 and honoring the winners of the agricultural sector on Monday.
Raisi called agriculture an important and privileged matter, and said, "Agriculture plays an important role in the country's economy and people's livelihood, and plays a very vital role in the country's self-reliance and independence."
The President said that production in the agricultural sector is one of the important components of the country's strength, and stated, "Self-reliance in the agricultural sector is important, and considering the large capacities in the country, we can achieve self-reliance in the field of food security, which is one of the plans of the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad in the 13th Administration".
He also said that the surge in production, self-reliance in agriculture, and food security of the country requires a jihadist approach of all sectors in the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, and said, "I strongly ask you to increase your efforts for jihad in this direction, meaning that continue along the path quickly and wisely, and be mindful of an enemy before you who does not want you to be self-sufficient".
Raisi stated that we are producers in many sectors today and we have reached self-reliance, adding, "If the country moves with a jihadist approach as well as the correct management of water and agricultural resources, not only the food security of the country will be guaranteed, but the country will be able to reach the export stage".
The President also emphasized the need to take advantage of knowledge-based achievements in the field of agriculture and said, "University professors in the field of science and research in agricultural universities and thousands of academic staff members in these universities should make their efforts in science and research in such a way that our agriculture is done both science-based and knowledge-based.".
Raisi said, "The presence of 12,000 faculty members in our agricultural universities is proof of the country's scientific capacity to make agriculture knowledge-based and multiply the results of farmers' efforts.".
The President continued, "Universities should help the government and parliament in making decisions, in which case self-reliance can be reached in a limited time frame".
Raisi also emphasized special attention to increasing the productivity in the agricultural sector and stated, "Reforming and changing the cultivation pattern that is suitable for the climate, which is profitable for the farmers and also fulfills the country's need for basic and strategic products, is on the agenda of the government."
