Iran Press/ Middle East: He is on a months-long hunger strike in protest at his administrative detention without charge or trial by the Zionist regime, the Palestinian WAFA news agency reported, quoting Khalil Awawdeh's lawyers on Monday.
Chairman of the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission Qadri Abu Baker said the Israeli regime and the prison officials are responsible for the life of Awawdeh, who suffers critical health conditions due to a prolonged hunger strike.
The commission's spokesman, Hasan Abed Rabbo, told the WAFA news agency that Awawdeh's health is deteriorating daily.
The official highlighted that the Palestinian prisoner had lost over half his weight and suffered from weakness, acute joint pain, headaches, severe dizziness, and blurred vision; he could not even recognize his wife, who visited him in the hospital.
Awawdeh now requires a wheelchair to help him move
On Sunday, the commission's spokesman stated that Awawdeh had reached a critical stage after his long hunger strike and could face irreversible health consequences at any moment.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club confirmed that Awawdeh's condition had deteriorated.
"He is in a real life-threatening condition, he could die at any moment," said Qadura Fares, the head of the organization.
Awawdeh, from the al-Khaili city in the West Bank, was apprehended on December 27, 2021. He went on hunger strike for 111 days before suspending it following promises. After the promises turned out to be false, he resumed the strike, demanding his freedom. The Zionist regime issued an order to renew his administrative detention for four months from June 26 to October 25 despite his critical health condition.
