People in Niger commemorate Ashura

Niamey (IP) - Shia minority in the Niger Republic commemorated Ashura rituals in Niamey, the capital of the West African country.

Iran PressAfrica: The people in Niger also mourned Imam Hussain's (AS) martyrdom, observing precessions on Monday in Birnin-Konni, a town in the Tahoua region.

Older people, youth, women, and children gathered in Niamey for the annual commemorations of the martyrdom of Imam Husain (AS) and his companions in the battle of Karbala in 61 AH.

Sheikh Salihu Ahmad Lazare, who led the rituals in Niamey, urged the Muslim world to stand united against the Israeli regime, which regularly attacked the people of Palestine.

Monday, August 8, 2022, was the tenth day of Muharram or Ashura day when more than 1,300 years ago, Imam Hussain (AS) and his 72 companions were martyred as they stood against then-tyrant Yazid I.
