Tehran (IP) - The Director-General of the Energy Ministry’s water information and data office says that efforts are underway to pay Iran’s share of water from Helmand (Hirmand) River this year.

Iran PressIran News: Speaking in his press conference on July 17, 2022, Firouz Ghasemzadeh stated that Iran held a meeting with the Taliban government in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, adding that ruling government in Afghanistan is ready to settle the problem of water right.

Referring to  Iran's  efforts to solve technical issues for releasing water, Ghasemzadeh expressed hope that this year Iran will reach the its water share of Helmand (Hirmand) River.

In his further remarks, Firouz Ghasemzadeh added: "Global drought has affected the whole world, and part of it has impacted Iran, and the highest temperature increase is exprienced  in the northwest of the country."

The Director-General of the Energy Ministry’s water information and data office said: We have been experiencing drought for the last two years, so that last year the country has a 37% decrease in rainfall and this year it  had a 27% decrease.

Firouz Ghasemzadeh emphasied: "Currently, 49% of the reservoirs of the dams are full, but the volume of the reservoirs this year has decreased by 4% compared to last year, so all of us areobliged to manege the water crisis together."
