Iran Press/ Asia: Ebrahim Raisi was meeting with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday during his visit to the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat to attend the Caspian Sea Littoral States Summit.
Raisi said that one of the most important benefits of holding regional gatherings was meeting with officials of neighboring countries and creating more understanding between them.
"The existing capacities in the two countries are much higher than the current level of relations between the two countries," the President said. "It is necessary to make optimal use of the capacities to expand cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, cultural and trade fields."
Referring to the history of relations between the two countries, Raisi added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has proved that it is a friend of the neighbors in the difficult days and never leaves its friends alone in difficulties."
The President further referred to the high-level capabilities of Iran in the field of technical and engineering services, including in the field of energy and civil engineering, and stated, "Iran's technical and service capabilities, as well as its geopolitical and logistical capabilities, including in the field of transit and transportation, are suitable grounds for developing cooperation between Iran and the Azerbaijan Republic, as well as further development and convergence of the Caspian Sea Littoral States."
Raisi also emphasized, "The presence of Israeli occupying regime in the region creates tensions and does not benefit the security of the region in any way." "Security in the region can only be achieved through the cooperation of regional countries and the Caspian Sea neighbors."
For his part, Aliyev said that after his previous meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the sidelines of the ECO Summit in Ashgabat, the promotion of bilateral relations had been accelerated, "I hope that our meeting today strengthens the process of the development of relations and raises the level of cooperation between the two countries," he added.
