Iran Press/ Iran news: Iran shares a 7000 Km border with Afghanistan, which is the largest producer of narcotics, so Iran's border guards are in a constant war with drug traffickers.
In a press briefing on Monday, July 27, Brigadier General Mehdi Hajian said that the police were in charge of the security both at home and the borders.
He pointed out that in the first three months of 2022, more than 160 tons of narcotics were discovered on the country's border by the police.
General Hajian further noted: "If the conditions and infrastructure are prepared, the police are ready to collect most of the street drug addicts in less than a week and hand them over to the responsible institutions and camps, because the presence of drug addicts in the streets causes insecurity."
Also on the occasion of World Drug Day on June 26, Iran's Minister of Interior Ahmad Vahidi said on Sunday: "Without any baggage and support from international institutions, we are at the forefront of the fight against drugs."
Referring to Bank Melli (National Bank) robbery in Tehran, he said: "The police were able to arrest the thieves in less than forty-eight hours, which is considered the success of the century."
