Iran’s Army Navy has kicked off the “Sustainable Power 1404” missile exercise, aimed at demonstrating its defensive capabilities and testing its latest domestically produced weapons.

Why it matters:

The exercise features a wide range of precision-guided cruise missiles with short, medium, and long-range capabilities, designed to strike and destroy surface targets as a show of Iran's deterrent power to expel enemy attacks.

The big picture:

The two-day drill is being conducted in the northern Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman. The last drill in the northern Indian Ocean zone was a joint one, wherein Russia and China participated.

Details:

Surface and subsurface naval units, aerial squadrons, coastal and sea-based missile platforms, and electronic warfare units engage in the exercise.
