Tehran (IP)- Following the deadly earthquake in Afghanistan, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed his deep sorrow and grief to the government and people of the country.

Iran PressIran News: At least 300 people were killed after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan early on Wednesday.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, expressed his condolences to the survivors of the tragedy and the victims and wished good health to the injured.

He also announced Iran's readiness to provide health aid to the victims.

Taliban spokesman Bilal Karimi told NBC News that more than 300 people had died while "hundreds" of others were injured in the magnitude six earthquake.

"The situation is quite critical. Hundreds of houses are collapsed and we expect heavy human losses and serious damage to the infrastructure," he said.

The earthquake hit the Paktika and Khost provinces, close to the country's border with Pakistan. 

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul announced that the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) is ready to help earthquake victims in southeastern Afghanistan.
