Moscow (IP) - Russian Foreign Minister will pay a visit to Iran on Wednesday, June 22, Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna said in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

Iran PressEurope: Earlier, Iranian sources reported Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's visit to Tehran but did not give an exact date.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in his recent presser that Russian Foreign Minister would travel to Tehran over the weekend.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay a visit to Iran on Wednesday, June 22, TASS cites as Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

"Tomorrow S. Lavrov will pay a visit to Iran," he wrote, without giving any further details.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that details about the Russian Foreign Minister's visit to Tehran would be known later.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said earlier: "On June 22-23, Sergey Lavrov will make a working visit to Tehran."

"He will continue the exchange of views on current international issues, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Ukraine, Syria and Afghanistan," the spokesperson added.

Lavrov’s trip will be the latest in the series of Russian officials’ visits to Iran. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak arrived in Tehran on May 25 to meet with Iranian Petroleum Minister Javad Owji and Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber. Moreover, talks between delegations of various Russian and Iranian ministries have taken place.

"On June 28, Sergey Lavrov will also attend a meeting of the Caspian states’ Foreign Ministers held in preparation for the 6th Caspian Summit, which is scheduled for June 29 in Ashgabat," Zakharova said, adding the FMs will review the Caspian states’ cooperation.
