Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister and EU Foreign Policy Chief held a phone talk on Saturday afternoon regarding the continuation of the Vienna talks on lifting anti-Iran sanctions.

Iran PressIran news: During the conversation, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed appreciation for Josep Borrell's efforts to reach an agreement and lambasted the counterproductive and hasty actions of the United States in drafting a resolution to the IAEA Board of Governors.

The Iranian foreign minister pointed out that Tehran has always welcomed sensible and result-oriented negotiations, but in order to reach a good and lasting agreement, the other party must give up its dual and contradictory behaviors.

"After the IAEA BoG resolution was passed, we have shown that we will not back down from the rights of our nation, and if the United States wants to continue its unconstructive behavior, it will face due response," Amir-Abdollahian stated.

"We still believe that diplomacy is the best and most proportionate path and solution," he noted.

Pointing out that Iran has never distanced itself from the negotiating table, the Iranian foreign minister said: "For this reason, we have always presented important initiatives in the talks to reach a favorable agreement; but negotiations must yield results."

Joseph Borrell, for his part, expressed his willingness to continue playing a positive role in reaching a final agreement in the negotiations, stating that the way out of the current situation is to pursue diplomacy and avoid counterproductive measures.  

Admitting Iran's constructive will to reach a good and lasting agreement, the EU foreign policy chief noted that the Vienna talks are not far from reaching an agreement and now it is the time to resume talks quickly and try to avoid escalation of tension.

"I am ready to make the necessary efforts as soon as possible to achieve the result agreed upon by the parties," Borell concluded.
