Iran Press/ Iran News: Maritime economy, which has recently received more attention in Iran, is a very general issue, and it is necessary to draw a clear picture of it.
The definition of a maritime economy, commonly referred to in the world literature as the Blue Economy, is the sustainable use of the capacity of water resources and expanses, including oceans, seas, lakes, and islands, for economic growth, improving livelihoods, and creating employment, and ultimately GDP growth.
Iran's geographical position for Blue Economy
Iran has a key and sensitive role due to its geopolitical position in the region and the world; therefore, due to having more than 5800 km of coastlines, access to the sea in the north and south, and access to open waters of the Indian Ocean, adjacent to the strategic Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and located in international transit corridors, could pursue sustainable development with a maritime approach, referred to as "Sea-based development."
