Tehran (IP) - In a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Iran’s Foreign Minister announced Tehran’s readiness to mediate between Russia and Ukraine, saying that his country supports any diplomatic effort to resolve the Ukraine conflict.

Iran PressEurope: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian discussed during a telephone conversation the prospects for the resumption of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program and the situation in Ukraine.

Explaining that Tehran opposes using war and sanctions as tools, Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran in establishing a ceasefire and returning to the negotiating table in the Ukraine conflict and said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran, based on its excellent relations with Russia, supports any diplomatic effort to resolve the Ukraine conflict and is ready to mediate and assist in resolving this crisis.”

“The main attention was paid to key issues of bilateral relations, as well as the prospects for the resumption of the full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In addition, according to the ministry, “an interested exchange of views took place on a number of topical regional and international problems, including the situation in Ukraine.”
