Tehran (IP) - The Iranian wrestling team won the 24th Brazilian Deaflympics 2021 with four gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.

Iran PressIran news: Following the 2021 Deaflympics in Brazil, which is being held in Caxias Do Sul, Brazil, the Iranian team won the Deaflympics championship for the first time by winning four gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.

In the 55kg weight category, Sadegh Abolvafaei won the final against his Bulgarian opponent 4-2 and won his first gold medal.

Mehdi Bakhshi, another representative of Iran in the 60 kg weight category, defeated his Turkish opponent 3:1 to bring the second gold medal.

The 87 kg final was held with the presence of Abuzar Rabieizadeh against wrestling from Turkey so this competition ended with a result of 4 to 4 in favor of Rabieizadeh. 

The fourth Iranian gold medal with a weight of 97 kg was won. In this weight, Akbar Saberi competed by wrestling from Kazakhstan and defeated his opponent with a result of 8:0 and won the gold medal.

In the continuation of these competitions, Ali Karimi the weight 67 kg lost to his opponent from Turkey 8:0 and won the silver medal of the 24th Olympic Games.

Shirzad Mahki in the weight of 82 kg competed for the bronze medal against a wrestler from India and won with a result of 11 to 0 and reached third place and the bronze medal.

The Iranian wrestling team won four bronze medals at the 2017 Turkish Olympic Games.

The 24th edition of the 2021 Summer Olympics for the Deaf, with the participation of more than 4,000 athletes from 80 countries, started on May 1, hosted by the Brazilian city of Caxias Do Sul, and will continue until May 15.

The Iranian Deaf Expedition Caravan has participated in eight sports, football, judo, karate, shooting, beach volleyball, track and field, taekwondo, freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling.
