Tehran (IP) - Russia's trade representative in Iran says the volume of trade between Iran and Russia has reached $4 billion, which is unprecedented.

Iran PressIran News: Russia's trade representative in Iran Rustam Ziganshin said in an interview that the volume of trade between Iran and Russia in 2021 has reached $4 billion.

"This is an unprecedented growth, $4 billion is an unprecedented figure in our trade with Iran," he said.

"I have been Russia's ambassador to Tehran for 10 and a half years, and we have never reached that number," he said, noting: “I hope we pass these figures. $4 billion seems like a lot, but it does not match the capacity of our countries.”

He added that the imposition of unprecedented sanctions against Russia has created more incentives for cooperation between the two countries. Iranian companies are keen to expand cooperation with Russia. This desire existed before the imposition of sanctions on Russia but expressed a belief that now is the easiest time to reach higher figures.

Asked what areas Iran and Russia could work together in, Ziganshin said: "A wide range of oil and gas, transportation, communications, information technology, science and technology, humanitarian action, food, agriculture and other items.”
