Iran Press/ Commentary: Last week, the Swedish prosecutor's office requested a life sentence for "Hamid Nouri", an Iranian citizen, based on the remarks of members of the MKO (Mojahedin-e- Khalq Organization) terrorist group, a sentence that has many ambiguities and raised questions about its validity.
Hamid Nouri was arrested by Swedish security forces on November 9, 2019, upon his arrival in Sweden to settle his family's disputes, and has been in prison for nearly 30 months.
"Kazem Gharibabadi," the secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights stressed that the detention of this Iranian citizen until his family was notified could be a case of enforced disappearance, adding: "Violent treatment during arrest and disrespect for human dignity, violation of the 1963 Vienna Convention, and keeping the Iranian embassy and his family unaware of his whereabouts in order to exert psychological pressure and prevent family visits are just some of the inhumane acts against a person who has been arrested with fabricated and false allegations."

The detention, solitary confinement, trial, and false allegations leveled by terrorist MKO have created a great deal of ambiguity about Sweden's action. The Swedish ambassador to Tehran has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the continued political detention of Hamid Nouri. He has been informed of the intense protest of Iran.

Hamid Nouri's trial, after 90 hearings, was met with a request for life imprisonment, while the evidence shows that during this period there was no minimum right to a fair trial in this court, and the process of trial and detention of Hamid Nouri was completely illegal and under the influence of the false allegations and inductions of the MKO terrorist group and the smear campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The MKO terrorist group, since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution, has assassinated more than 17,000 Iranian citizens in various terrorist operations. The MKO are also listed as terrorist groups by many countries in the world for their inhumane behavior and crimes against humanity. They are highly hated even by the Swedes themselves, especially the Iranians living in the country; Therefore, the Swedish court's reliance on the testimony of a group involved in genocide and war crimes, including the assassination of thousands of Iranians, is completely unfounded.
This is while Hamid Nouri, who has poor eyesight, has not even been allowed to be examined by an ophthalmologist and wear glasses in solitary confinement for the past 2.5 years. Out of a total of 550 hours of trial, Nouri had less than 20 hours to defend himself, while out of a total of 90 court hearings, more than 80 witnesses, mostly members of the MKO terrorist group, had the opportunity to testify against him.
Obviously, the lack of a comprehensive and independent investigation by the Swedish prosecutor, the issuance of an indictment based on the biased and baseless remarks of some people affiliated with the MKO terrorist group, the lack of access to a lawyer, and the denial of his right to defend himself in court is an indication that the court has been convened with politically biased goals and the basic principles of judicial justice have not been observed.
It should also be borne in mind that the Swedish judiciary, while claiming to protect human rights, has held such a trial based on the interests of MKO terrorists and sentenced him to life imprisonment without the slightest reaction to the burning of the Quran in Sweden by Danish extremists, and even protests staged by the Swedish people have also been subjected to police repression over this behavior.
Accordingly, referring to the Swedish government's policy of supporting terrorist groups such as Al-Ahwaziyah and the MKO, the Secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights stated: "Sweden has become a safe haven to host terrorists; It is time for Stockholm to determine whether it seeks to side with the terrorists or fulfill its international obligations to counter terrorist groups."
