German Chancellor Olaf Schultz said in Berlin on Thursday that Germany is working on new infrastructure to make it independent of energy imports from Russia.

Iran PressEurope: German Chancellor said that the current situation in Europe did not impede Germany’s efforts to ease its dependence, but such a step cannot be taken in just two days, it will require more time.

"Possibly, we will be able to eliminate dependence on the import of oil and coal during one year. As for gas, we will need a little bit more time," he said. Alternative resources required the creation of special transportation facilities which were not in place yet.

"We are working on a new infrastructure," he added.

Scholz has repeatedly stressed that a drastic embargo on Russian energy resources would cause adverse effects on the German industry and the market of labor.

Earlier, Economic Affairs and Climate Action Minister Robert Habek said that Germany had prepared well for Russia’s gas supply measures and would not "permit blackmail." The European Commission in March proposed a plan to the EU countries for easing dependence on Russian gas by 67% this year over the conflict in Ukraine. 219
