Tehran (IP) - The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, picks 'Production: Knowledge-Based and Job-Creating' as the Iranian New Year’s motto.

Iran PressCommentary: Naming the years in the last decade shows that the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has specifically emphasized the word production five times. In some years, the Leader supported it without mentioning the word production. In the Iranian year 1397 motto, which was “Support for Iranian Products”, the name had the support of production in itself.

This shows that Ayatollah Khamenei considers domestic production one of the most critical strategies to face the enemy’s economic war against Iran, diversify the economy, pass the monopoly economy, neutralize sanctions, and put the country on the path of economic progress. In fact, domestic production is one of the main pillars of the resistance economy strategy.

The industrialized countries of the world followed the path of economic progress by focusing on production: England in the nineteenth century, and the United States, Germany, Japan, and the Soviet Union in the twentieth century, and the newly industrialized countries such as Korea, Taiwan, and now China; the key to wealth was productive activity.

Another point is that solving problems such as unemployment is more accessible through production in the economy. Most jobs are directly or indirectly related to the manufacturing sector. In 2005, Japan’s production sector accounted for 20.2 percent of the economy, 23.2 percent in Germany, and 13.4 percent in the United States. According to the same statistic, if the US manufacturing sector were as large as Japan’s, the US would have 7 million high-quality, stable, and well-paid jobs. If the proportion of the manufacturing sector were as large as Germany, the United States would have ten million more jobs.

Another issue is that if production booms, livelihood concerns, as a major problem, will be reduced. In recent years, the enemies of the Islamic Revolution have tried to impose maximum economic pressure on the Iranian people through imposing extensive sanctions, and creating dissatisfaction, in order to split the relationship between the people and the system. Focusing on production, and especially job creation makes people’s livelihoods less affected by external pressures.

Furthermore, focusing on production removes the budget burden from oil and shifts it to different sectors. In Iran, there are huge capacities in various fields of industry, mining, agriculture, petrochemical, oil and gas, each of which is a fulcrum of change in the production and development of society’s economy. Activating production capacities in these sectors can lead the economy to move beyond monopoly production and reduce the external pressures.

Another thing is that trade between countries is based on production, not services. Although the service sector is also vital in the country’s economy, production is far more crucial. Now that Ebrahim Raisi’s administration has made interaction with neighboring countries and strengthening relations as its most important foreign policy agenda, attention to production can increase Iran’s foreign trade. Having productivity in different sectors increases countries’ dependence on each other. Economic interdependence is one of the reasons why industrialized countries are forced not to threaten the interests of other countries, even in their policies, and to exercise more rationality in their policies and behaviors.

It is due to this importance and role that the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has emphasized the relationship between the production sector and employment and stated that if there is a boom in production, it will affect employment, reduction of the inflation rate, and even the budget balance, and increase in the national monetary value.

The point of the Iranian New Year’s motto is that the Leader of the Islamic Revolution emphasizes knowledge-based production. Hence, focusing on knowledge in production is primarily aims at making the right choice of manufactured goods, reducing production costs, increasing the productivity of manufactured goods, and making manufactured goods competitive at home and abroad. In a situation where Iran is facing foreign sanctions and pressure, knowledge-based production can provide the ground for neutralizing these sanctions and pressures. In fact, in order to overcome the dependence on raw materials sales, it is necessary to use knowledge, creativity, and innovation in the field of economics.

In the present era, the term knowledge-based economy, which is especially emphasized in the development strategy of nations, expresses the emphasis on the role of knowledge and technology in economic development. The move of economies towards knowledge-based, in addition to increasing the competitiveness of countries, can help improve the nations’ soft power in foreign trade while creating an economic base in the world.
