Tehran (IP) - Director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived in Tehran last night and met with the Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) in the morning.

Iran PressIran News: Rafael Mariano Grossi met Mohammad Eslami on Saturday morning, and he is scheduled to meet with Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian this afternoon.

"I'm traveling to Tehran today for meetings with Iranian officials tomorrow to address outstanding questions in Iran. This is a critical time, but a positive outcome for everyone is possible," Grossi tweeted to Tehran before the travel.

"IAEA Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi will travel to Tehran for meetings with senior Iranian officials on Saturday. They will discuss outstanding safeguards issues with a view to address them,” the IAEA said in a statement on Thursday, March 3, 2022.

"We certainly have regular consultations with Iran in various forms, in person, online, and in other forms, and we work hard to reach an agreement," Rafael Grossi said in response to a question about Iran on March 2nd. 

The visit comes as the eighth round of talks in Vienna between Iran and the P4+ 1 to lift US sanctions is underway. Some diplomats announce much progress and some others say that the talks are almost over.

The eighth round of talks on the removal of anti-Iranian sanctions resumed on Dec. 27, 2021 in the Austrian capital of Vienna. Representatives from China, France, Russia, Britain, Germany and Iran have been negotiating in Vienna to bring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) back on track.

"Yesterday marked the 11th month since the Vienna Talks started. A long and grueling marathon. Now it is almost over," Mikhail Ulyanov Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna tweeted.
