Ahmad Vahidi (L) And General Qamar Javed Bajwa

Islamabad (IP) -The Minister of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in his first official meeting in Pakistan on Monday at the local time, met with the Commander of the Pakistani Army.

Iran PressAsia: Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi and his entourage were welcomed by Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad on Monday morning upon arrival in Islamabad.

 

 

Ahmad Wahidi and the accompanying delegation met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General "Qamar Javed Bajwa" at the Pakistan Army Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

Geostrategic environment, particularly regional security situation and bilateral cooperation in defense and security domains discussed during the meeting. Pak - Iran Border Security mechanism including Border Markets came under discussion. 

COAS said that enhanced cooperation between the two brotherly neighbors is vital for peace and stability in the region. Terming Pak - the Iran Border as the border of peace and friendship, COAS highlighted the need to put in collective efforts to deny any space or liberty of action to be exploited by miscreants along the Pak-Iran border.

The visiting dignitary, while acknowledging stability in Afghanistan as collective regional responsibility,  appreciated Pakistan's efforts for peace and stability, particularly humanitarian assistance being rendered to mitigate challenges faced by the people of Afghanistan.

The meeting was also attended by "Mohammad Ali Hosseini", the ambassador of Iran, General "Ahmad Ali Goodarzi", the commander of the Iranian border guard police, and Colonel "Mostafa Ghanbarpour", our military attaché in Pakistan.

Some Pakistani military and security officials, along with the Pakistani army commander, met with an Iranian delegation.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest developments related to Iran-Pakistan relations, security developments in the region, border cooperation, and the situation in Afghanistan.

This is Ahmad Vahidi's first visit to Pakistan as Interior Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran since his appointment.

Vahidi is scheduled to meet with the Interior Minister and then the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Vahidi's visit to Islamabad is at the invitation of the Pakistani Interior Minister.

The Minister of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran is scheduled to pay a one-day visit to Islamabad. In addition to meeting with the Minister of Interior of Pakistan, he will also meet with Prime Minister Imran Khan .
