Chabahar (IP) - The Trilateral Combined Naval Exercise, codenamed the "Maritime Security Belt 2022," with the participation of Iran, China, and Russia, started on Friday morning in the North Indian Ocean.

Iran PressIran News: The drill, whose main motto is "Together for Peace and Security," is now underway in the north of the Indian Ocean with the participation of marine and airborne units of the Iranian, Chinese, and Russian navies.

Rear-Admiral Mustafa Taj al-Dini, the spokesman for the drill, said: "In the exercise, all kinds of tactical exercises will be performed with the presence of units from three countries."

Rear-Admiral Mustafa Taj al-Dini added: "The North Indian Ocean region is important because of the important waterways and straits of Bab al-Mandeb, Malacca and Hormuz."

The spokesman said: "These three straits are called to as the golden triangle in the region, and the Oman Sea and the North Indian Ocean are also vital for the trade, and Iran, China, and Russia are working to ensure sustainable maritime security in the region." 

The joint drills covered 17,000 square kilometers and consisted of various tactical exercises such as target practicing and rescuing ships from assault and incidents such as fires.

Late in December 2019, Iran, Russia, and China staged the first "Marine Security Belt" exercise, a four-day joint maritime drill in the Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman area.
