Iran, Iraq's Kurdistan seek shore-up of economic ties

West Azerbaijan (IP) - The Governor of Iran's West Azerbaijan says the level of economic relations between Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan region should be increased.

Iran PressIran news: In a meeting with Erbil Governor on Sunday, Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian said that the Islamic Republic of Iran's relations with the northern region of Iraq were strong, and it was hoped that these meetings will further enhance the relations between the two sides.

Motamedian added: "Because of the existing commonalities, cultural relations between Iran and northern Iraq are extensive."

Erbil's governor said for his part that one of the priorities of Erbil was the development of economic and trade relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Omid Abdolrahman Hassan noted: "Most of the goods available in Erbil province are Iranian goods and we welcome the presence of Iranian companies in Erbil."

"Trade and economic relations of West Azerbaijan with Erbil province through the Tamerchin border of Piranshahr were very important and these relations should be expanded," he said.

The second Iranian trade fair was launched in the Iraqi Kurdistan region at the Erbil International Fair last week.

About 140 Iranian manufacturing companies and 450 traders and merchants are present at the trade fair, presenting their products.
