UN Commissioner:
Iran helps international community by widely accepting immigrants

Tehran (IP) - "Despite problems, Iran is actually helping the international community by accepting large numbers of refugees," said the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Iran PressIran news: "Despite the sanctions, Iran is a good host of Afghan citizens," said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grande, according to Iran Press.

Grandi described the purpose of his visit to Iran as the development of cooperation to help Afghan citizens and said: "We have also entered into talks with the Taliban and we are trying to intensify stabilization measures in Afghanistan to control the flow of refugees to Iran."

During the meeting, Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi also called on international and European institutions to fulfill their financial obligations to Afghan refugees.

Emphasizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran has never built a wall to prevent the entry of immigrants, the Iranian Interior Minister added: "Foreign nationals residing inside Iran, like other Iranian citizens, receive appropriate health services."

Vahidi pointed out: "European parties think that the Islamic Republic of Iran accepts immigrants and therefore do not worry about sending immigrants to their own borders."

"And this is while the capacities of the Islamic Republic of Iran are limited and serious support must be provided in this regard," he added.

The Iranian Interior Minister further referred to the US approach in Afghanistan and said: "The current situation in Afghanistan has been determined by the US, it has blocked the money of the Afghan people and is the main cause of the current problems of the Afghan people."
