Iran Press/ Europe: On Sunday evening, dozens of Italian citizens and political activists gathered in Pantheon Square in central Rome, supporting the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and demanding his immediate release.
The demonstrators criticized the silence and indifference of Italian politicians and the mass media while expressing concern over the possible extradition of WikiLeaks founder to the United States.
The British High Court of Appeal in London on Friday ruled in favor of the extradition of Julian Assange to the United States. Assange's fiancee, Stella Moris, said their legal team would appeal "at the earliest possible moment," while saying it was a "grave miscarriage of justice."
US officials have accused Assange of plotting to hack into government computers and violating espionage laws in connection with the release of classified cables.
Experts say Assange could face up to life in prison if extradited to the United States.
After seven years at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, Assange was arrested and detained by British police on April 11, 2019, where the Ecuadorian government denied him asylum.
