Mexico granted political asylum to Julian Assange, the Australian founder of WikiLeaks after the UK refused to extradite him to the United States.

Iran PressAmerica: "At a press conference, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador called on the British government to release Julian Assange so that Mexico could grant him political asylum."

On Monday, a judge in the British Central Criminal Court known as 'Old Bailey' rejected the request of the United States to extradite Julian Assange, the founder of the WikiLeaks website.

Assange is being prosecuted in the United States for publishing more than 700,000 classified documents on US military and diplomatic activities, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Assange is currently being held in a high-security prison in London.

After seven years at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, Assange was arrested by British police on Thursday, April 11, 2019, when he was denied asylum by the Ecuadorian government.

WikiLeaks has revealed a lot of US diplomatic and military intelligence since 2010.
