Tehran (IP) - The Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) says the university supports the education of Afghan students.

Iran PressIran news: Mehdi Moqtadaei, who received the official representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), discussed the university's activities and capacities to help Afghan students and provide opportunities to continue their education in the university.

In the meeting, the possibility of benefiting from the university's capacities to support joint educational and research cooperation with other countries was discussed.

Also, in line with the project of the UNPF and cooperation with the Italian Embassy to pave the way for Afghan students' education in nursing and midwifery fields, the feasibility of continuing similar projects for the future was discussed, with joint meetings supposed to be held on how to continue such training programs.

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) previously welcomed Iran's efforts to extend educational opportunities for nearly half a million Afghan children and said the Islamic Republic needs greater humanitarian support.

The Islamic Republic is currently hosting over 3.5 million Afghan refugees.
