Tehran (IP) – Afghan people injured in Friday’s suicide bomb attack on a Shia mosque in Afghanistan’s southern city of Kandahar are being taken to Baqiyatallah Hospital in Tehran for treatment.

Iran PressIran News: They have been airlifted to Iran because of insufficient medical equipment in Kandahar province.

Talking to Iran Press, President of Baqiyatallah Hospital Hasan Abolghasemi said: “Some of these patients were in dire need of multiple surgeries, dialysis, blood, and platelets transfusions due to severe injuries.”

He stated that there are a number of children in the pediatric ward who have undergone several surgeries and are recovering.

He announced the hospital’s readiness to admit other wounded Afghans if needed with the coordination of the Foreign Ministry.

Baqiyatallah Hospital is the only hospital that has admitted and treated Afghans; other Iranian hospitals are also in full readiness to do so in case of need.

The ISIS terrorist group has twice attacked Shia mosques in Kandahar and Kunduz, Afghanistan, killing and wounding hundreds of people in the last two weeks.

The Taliban had promised to confront and suppress the ISIS terrorist group in Afghanistan.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the suicide bomb attack on a mosque in Afghanistan’s Kandahar that has killed over 60 people, stressing the need for unity between Shia and Sunni Muslims to counter hostile, divisive plots.
