The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) on Saturday called for immediate action by the international community to end hunger in Yemen.

Iran PressEurope: Calling on the international community to end the famine in Yemen, the World Food Program stressed on Twitter that it is committed to supporting Yemeni families in need of food aid to survive.

The World Food Program has previously stated that Yemen is facing the worst food crisis in the world.

Martin Griffiths, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, recently called the humanitarian situation in the country catastrophic and said that 5 million Yemenis are at risk of "famine".

Yemen has been facing severe shortages of fuel, food and medical equipment for the past six years due to the siege of the Saudi coalition.

Saudi Arabia, with the support of the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and several other countries, invaded Yemen in March 2015. The outbreak of war by Saudi Arabia and its allies in Yemen has so far killed tens of thousands and displaced millions of Yemenis. 219
