Iran Press/ commentary: During his visit, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian will meet with Russian officials and discuss bilateral relations and the most important regional developments.
The meeting comes as current developments in the South Caucasus and Afghanistan have doubled the need for consultations between Iran and Russia in the framework of strategic cooperation to counter-terrorism and occupation and to protect the common interest in the face of common threats.
Iran and Russia, as active and effective actors in maintaining stability and security in the region, are determined to cooperate and strengthen multilateralism on a wide range of bilateral, international, and regional issues, and today's talks in Moscow are aimed at this goal.
Upon arrival in Moscow, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran told reporters that Iran expects Russian officials to be sensitive to any possible border changes in the region and the presence of terrorists and the Israeli regime in the region, which is against peace, stability and security in the region.
Therefore, another important aspect of the strategic relations between Iran and Russia is the effectiveness of these relations against American unilateralism. US military intervention in West Asia has caused instability and insecurity in the region.

The joint strategy of Iran and Russia is to strengthen and develop multilateralism against Western unilateralism.
Now the security situation and the military equation in West Asia have changed, and the disgraceful withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan is one sign of that change.
In this process, regional components and factors such as the disgust of the nations of the region from US intervention and the decline of US military power and strengthening intra-regional defense and security cooperation with the participation of powerful and independent countries such as Iran, Russia and China have played a role.
Ali Esmaeili-Ardakani, an expert on political affairs, believes that Iran and Russia have come to a belief that by helping each other, they can thwart Washington's goals by expanding economic, political, and military cooperation. At the same time, the fight against US extravagance in the political, security and economic spheres can pave the way for a consensus on the need to change US behavior in other international issues.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently said in a telephone conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi that the development of relations with Iran is of great importance to Russia, noting that he welcomes and supports the proposal to conclude a comprehensive bilateral cooperation agreement.

Russia's role in the Iran Nuclear Deal and its participation in peaceful nuclear programs; Iran's permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union, along with the cooperation of the two countries in the development of the trade route called the North-South Corridor, are among the areas that have provided the basis for the development of bilateral and multilateral economic cooperation.
This level of relations requires the two sides to have ongoing consultations to make the best use of all political-economic capacities and security convergence in the face of common threats.
The importance of the Iranian Foreign Minister's visit to Moscow and Tehran's expectations from the strategic talks with the Russian officials should be assessed in line with these goals.
