Iran's Foreign Minister arrived in Moscow on Tuesday evening for consultations with his Russian counterpart on issues of mutual interest including Vienna talks, Afghanistan, and West Asia.

Iran PressEurope: Hossein Amirabdollahian was received at Moscow Airport by the Russian Foreign Ministry officials and the Islamic Republic of Iran's Ambassador Kazem Jalali.

Amirabdollahian will meet with Sergei Lavrov to review the Vienna talks on reviving the Iran nuclear deal, the situation in Afghanistan, the Caspian Sea status, the South Caucasus region, and the latest developments in the region.

The meeting is part of the regular consultations between the two sides to exchange views and coordinate the positions on various regional and international issues.

The last such meeting was held on September 9. Lavrov had earlier invited the Iranian foreign minister to visit Moscow.

Amirabdollahian’s visit takes place at an official invitation by his Russian counterpart Lavrov and it is his first visit to Moscow and after Iran’s permanent membership at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the two sides will pay special attention to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) issue, the status in Afghanistan, and appropriate response to the terrorist and drug trafficking threats, and the international contributions to the construction of Afghanistan after the settling down of the political developments there.
