5.7 magnitude Earthquake jolts Khuzestan in southern Iran

Khuzestan(IP) - A 5.7 magnitude earthquake shook the border of Khuzestan and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces of Iran near Chelgard.

Iran PressIran news: According to the Institute of Geophysics, University of Tehran; the earthquake occurred at 06:09 local time, 33 km of Chelgard in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, 37 km of Khajeh castle in Khuzestan province, 63 km of Izeh city, 102 km of Shahrekord and 158 km of Ahvaz.

The reports say 8 people so far have been injured when running away from the house at the time of the quake in Shahrekord.

Emergency units are stationed in all areas and are investigating the situation of the earthquake.

Meanwhile, according to the reports further 12 people were injered in Andika, one of the cities in Khuzestan.

Mohammad Heidari, Head of the Emergency Center and Deputy Director of Accidents Department at Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences in Iran said: "8 people were injured in 5.7 magnitude earthquake in Kuhrang city. All of them have been treated and they did not have any serious injuries."

Necessary measures have been taken to send helicopters and emergency buses from the capital to Kuhrang, he added.

Heidari said that after the 5.7 magnitude earthquake in Kuhrang city, all emergency personnel were on standby.
