Holding exercises on northwestern border is a matter of sovereignty

Tehran (IP) - The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that holding exercises in the northwestern border areas is a matter of sovereignty that is done for the peace and stability of the whole region.

Iran PressIran news: Saeed Khatibzadeh, in response to a question regarding the statements made by the President of Azerbaijan in the media, said on Tuesday: "While good and respectful relations between the two countries exist and there are the usual channels of communication between the two sides are at the highest level, it is surprising to express it in this way."

"The Islamic Republic will not tolerate the presence of the Zionist regime near its borders and will take any action it deems necessary for its security," he said. 

The spokesman added: "In this regard and other related issues, during the meeting of the two foreign ministers on the sidelines of the recent session of the UN General Assembly in New York, serious and detailed consultations were held and it was agreed to continue these talks in a proper context."

Khatibzadeh further noted: "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always stated its opposition to any territorial occupation and has stressed the need to respect the territorial integrity of countries and internationally recognized borders. At the same time, observing good neighborliness is one of the most important issues that are expected to be considered by all neighbors." 

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also emphasized the exercises conducted by Iran in the northwestern border areas: "This is a matter of sovereignty and it is done for the peace and stability of the whole region. Of course, it is clear that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not tolerate the presence of the Zionist regime near its borders, and in this regard, it will take whatever action it deems necessary for its national security."
