The Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) said: "The expansion of trade relations, exports , imports, and the settlement of financial issues between Iran and Sri Lanka are on the agenda."

Iran PressIran news: In a meeting with Udaya Gammanpila, the Sri Lankan Minister of Energy, Akbar Komijani welcomed the expansion of trade between the two countries and said: "As an independent state, Sri Lanka is expected to support Iran's interests in the international community."

He added: "The expansion of trade and banking relations between Iran and Sri Lanka is possible based on providing payment and receipt mechanisms directly and indirectly."

CBI's governor proposes that a working group consisting of Sri Lankan, Iranian experts, business people, economic activists be formed to provide solutions for expanding trade cooperation and debt settlement.

The Sri Lankan Minister of Energy also stated in the meeting: "Sri Lanka welcomes the expansion of cooperation with Iran, and despite the restrictions, is interested in expanding trade and using all available capacities to advance the interests of both sides."

He said his country would stand by Iran on its rainy days and would support Tehran's interests.
