New York (IP) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a meeting with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, strongly criticized the oppressive US sanctions, calling them inhumane.

Iran Press/America: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Wednesday, in a meeting with Peter Maurer, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, strongly criticized the silence of human rights institutions in the face of oppressive US sanctions and said: "The unjust US sanctions are an inhumane act and blatant terrorism against the Iranian people that must be rejected and countered by all.

Amir-Abdollahian also thanked the Red Cross for its limited but valuable assistance to Iran's Red Crescent in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Regarding the vaccination of Afghan citizens and refugees in Iran, the Iranian Foreign Minister said: "We tried to vaccinate Afghan refugees as much as possible in the height of the coronavirus outbreak, and despite all the pressures that Iranian society is facing these days, but in this case, we need immediate and serious international assistance."

During the meeting, the President of the Red Cross thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its close cooperation over the past years and Iran's generous hosting of Afghan refugees.

Regarding the activities of the Red Cross in Yemen, Maurer warned that the organization is still active there, as well as the tightening of activities in Yemen and the direct and devastating economic pressure on the Yemeni people caused by the siege.
