Iran Press/ Iran News: Attending his weekly press conference, Saeed Khatibzadeh responded to Iran Press’ question and stated: “What we witness in Afghanistan these days is a big lesson for those who tie their security to the United States.”
“The US proved that it only considers its own benefit, not even that of its allies,” he noted.
“The US presence in Afghanistan had nothing except casualty, damage, poverty, and finally, the Americans left Afghanistan in a terrible way,” he added.
He underlined that Iran has tried and will try to bring peace and security to the region.
“Those who claim human rights are silent about the painful events in Afghanistan which make everyone deeply sad,” Khatibzadeh said.
“The US only lies and makes excuses for its assaults and violations, and what happened in Afghanistan proves that US’ decline has accelerated,” he pointed out.
“We do recommend the US to respect international laws,” he said.
Responding to the second question of Iran Press regarding the claim of the Israeli regime’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz, Khatibzadeh said that the regime is known for aggression and insecurity and has no place in the international system.
“The Zionist Regime is based on illegitimacy and these claims are nothing but worthless allegations,” he concluded.
Iran calls for inclusive, transparent government in Afghanistan
Iran’s spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for forming an inclusive, transparent and accountable government in Afghanistan.
Speaking at the weekly press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said: “Iran has been following the latest developments and events closely and has been in contact with all parties in Afghanistan.”
He further called for the establishment of an inclusive, transparent and accountable government in Afghanistan.
Regarding Afghan refugees, he said Iran had been hosting Afghan refugees for the past 40 years.
“We now expect all sides in Afghanistan to preserve the lives, property, and honor of the people,” he added.
Continuation of Vienna talks
Referring to the talks in Vienna to revive the Iran Nuclear Deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the changes in the approach of Iran’s new administration, Khatibzadeh said: “Iran’s sovereign positions are the same positions that we have always announced.”
Regarding the remarks made by Russia’s Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, and the start of the next round of negotiations, Saeed Khatibzadeh stated: “Some changes may take place in the Iranian new administration.”
“Other JCPOA parties should not misunderstand the internal developments in Iran. The effective lifting of all US sanctions and the adherence of other parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action are the guiding principles of any agreement in Vienna,” he noted.
Elsewhere, Khatibzadeh pointed to sending fuel to Lebanon, saying: “Normal trade in a legitimate field such as energy is a very normal decision. We sell our oil based on our own decision and the need expressed by our friends and customers. We certainly cannot see the suffering of the Lebanese people.”
“We, as a country that has been under unilateral US sanctions for years, know that some of these countries are addicted to sanctions and benefit from the suffering of other countries. Iran, along with other countries, does not allow the hegemonic system to take such actions,” he added.
