Tehran (IP)- In a car march, the Iranian people attended mourning rituals in thousands to mark Tasu'a in Tehran.

Iran Press/Iran news: The coronavirus pandemic has forced the people to commemorate Tasu'a and carry out the mourning procession in the car, under the tight observance of the health protocols, not only in Tehran but across the country on Aug 18, 2021.

Also, it was mandatory to hold no mourning ceremony and rituals in closed spaces.

The drive-in march mourners participated in the ceremony to pay their tributes and respect to Imam Hossein (PBUH) and his companions who were martyred at Karbala-Iraq.

Tasu'a is devoted to Abbas ibn Ali (AS), Imam Hossein’s brother, who made great sacrifices to protect the Imam who himself sacrificed even his family in the fight for the promotion of truth and justice.

Abbas (AS) was eventually martyred on the 10th day of Muharram in Karbala as he went to fetch water for Imam Hussain's children, the 6-month infant child Ali Asghar included, who were suffering thirst.

The army of then-tyrant Yazid banned water to Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions as of the 7th day of Muharram until Ashura, the day 10 of the month.
