4.9 magnitude earthquake shook southern Kerman

Kerman (IP)- An earthquake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale shook the Iranian Anbarabad County in Kerman Province on Thursday.

Iran PressIran news: According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake occurred at 16:54 p.m. local time, on August 12, and at the depth of 10 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 57.68 degrees longitude and 28.33 degrees latitude.

Reza Fallah, Director of the Red Crescent Society of Kerman province, in this regard, referred to the occurrence of two consecutive earthquakes of magnitude 3.9 and 4.9 in the south of Kerman province, saying: "Three assessment teams from Anbarabad, Kahnooj and the local team of Faryab Crescent House were immediately dispatched to assess the possible damages of the accident."

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to the property.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
