Tehran (IP) - Iran's President says the new government welcomes the development of relations with France based on common interests and mutual respect.

Iran PressIran News: In a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emanuel Macron on Monday, Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi stressed the economic ties between the countries, saying that the rights of the Iranian nation must be protected in any negotiation.

Referring to the US sheer violation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the E3's (France, Germany, UK) lack of commitment to the implementation of the international agreement, Raisi pointed out that the US not only violated the deal but also imposed new sanctions on Iran, including a ban on humanitarian items.

He stressed that both the US and the Europeans must fulfill their obligations to the JCPOA, stating that in any negotiation, the rights and interests of the Iranian people must be upheld.

The Iranian president touched on the regional issues of security and emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran would counter any destabilizing act in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea to preserve security in the very water regions.

As for Lebanon, Raisi emphasized: "We support any action that is aimed at stabilizing, securing and improving the economic situation of the Lebanese people, and we welcome France's support in this regard."

The French President Macron, for his part, congratulated Raisi for being elected as Iran's President and said: "Iran and France could play a role in the maintenance of peace and stability in the region."

Macron also pointed to the US' unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA, stressing: "We are looking for a solution to this issue, and we hope that negotiations will start again."

He expressed hope that with Iran's help, the ground would be prepared for Lebanon's stability and solving the country's problems.
