Iran Press/ Iran news: In a meeting with the Head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (al-Hashd al-Sha'abi), Falih Al-Fayyadh, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf stated: "The defeat of ISIS in Iraq was the result of the struggle of the PMU and the tireless courage of the martyrs Lt Gen Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
Al-Fayyaz also appreciated the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The two sides discussed the recent developments in Iraq and the region and noted the positive role of al-Hashad al-Sha'abi in securing Iraq.
They commemorated the bravery of martyrs Lt Gen Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis in the meeting.
General Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s anti-terror Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), were martyred along with their companions in a US drone strike ordered by former US President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
