Iran attaches great importance to neighboring countries: MP

Tehran (IP) – The spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly said Iran attaches great importance to the situation of people in neighboring countries.

Iran PressIran News: In response to the statements of some Iraqi officials regarding the interruption of water supply from Iran to Iraq, Mahmoud Abbaszadeh-Meshkini, stated: "Iran is facing a sharp decline in rainfall this water year, and if the rivers have been cut off at some point, it is due to lack of rainfall and drought."

He underlined that Iran had taken no new action on the rivers; hence, reducing the water supply has nothing to do with Iran's decisions.

He noted that development in the border areas of neighboring countries and the expansion of relations and interactions would inevitably lead to economic development and security on both sides of the border.

He announced Iran's readiness to negotiate and exchange views with Iraq in the form of treaty arrangements, noting that Iran welcomes dialogue for mutual understanding and the elimination of any misunderstandings.
