Deputy of Iran's Permanent Mission to UN urges lifting anti-Syria sanctions

New York (IP) - The Deputy Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations stressed the need for a complete lifting of unilateral sanctions against Syria and stated that as a country that has been subject to decades of oppressive sanctions, Iran condemns imposing sanctions on food and medicine.

Iran PressAmerica: According to Iran press Zahra Ershadi, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, stated this at a meeting of the Security Council of the organization, which was held to review the humanitarian developments in Syria.

"As a country that has been subject to decades of oppressive sanctions, we condemn the imposition of sanctions on food and medicine because they are irresponsible, immoral and illegal," said Iran's Deputy, Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that the imposition of these sanctions in Syria only prolongs the suffering of the people of this country, delays refugees' return, and hinders efforts to rebuild this country.

Ershadi said: "Therefore, the complete lifting of unilateral sanctions should be one of the main elements of any discussion on paying attention to the humanitarian aspects of the Syrian crisis."

Iran's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations added: "Relief to the Syrian people must be done in a way that reduces the suffering of the Syrian people and provides the conditions for the immediate return of refugees and displaced persons and contributes to the long-term stability of this country."

The UN Security Council meeting was held on Wednesday in local time with its permanent members, observer members, and Iran, Syria, and Turkey on the Middle East and Syria.
