Iran Press/ Iran news: Answering Iran Press question on the sidelines of today's meeting of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Abbas Araghchi explained the results of the Vienna talks and issues related to the disagreement of the parties to lift US sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He said: "Today, a detailed meeting with the members of parliament was held in the Commission and we presented a comprehensive report on the Vienna talks to them. They also asked a number of questions that were answered."
Noting that all the details and dimensions of the Vienna talks were discussed in the meeting, Araghchi added: "The views of the MPs, which can sometimes help the negotiation process, were also raised. The various dimensions of the parliament law on 'Strategic Action Plan to Lift Sanctions' and 60% enrichment were also discussed in detail."
Answering the Iran Press question, he noted: "There are challenges in the negotiations. Of course, we are on a path that can lead to results, but it is too early to say whether we can overcome the challenges and obstacles. Therefore, we cannot say that we are optimistic or pessimistic, but we are not disappointed. Our positions are very clear, the sanctions must be lifted, verification should be done and then Iran will return to its obligations."
Asked about the views of the other sides and the United States on the list proposed by the Islamic Republic of Iran to lift sanctions, Araghchi said: "This debate continues, there are two types of sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran; First, sectoral sanctions, such as sanctions on oil, banking, insurance, shipping, petrochemicals, construction and vehicles, and second, sanctions on individuals and legal entities."
List of sanctions against individuals contains about 1,500 cases
He added: "The list of sanctions against individuals is a long list and contains about 1,500 cases, but we are moving in both directions, sectoral sanctions should all be lifted, and I think there is an understanding in this regard, and so the sanctions against individuals must be lifted too."
Asked if a step-for-a-step plan to lift sanctions would be implemented, the deputy foreign minister said: "A step-for-a-step plan has long been abandoned. The Islamic Republic of Iran rejected that before Nowruz, and the issue of the a-step-for-a-step plan is not included in the negotiations."
Answering a question about how long the talks will last, Araghchi noted: "No specific time can be predicted. We will not allow the talks to erode if we feel that there is no seriousness on the other side or they are looking to waste time or adding other topics to the discussions. If that happens, we will stop the negotiations. At the same time, we are not in a hurry, because there are serious issues in the negotiations that should be considered and discussed carefully enough. Therefore, we will not be in a hurry and we will not allow the erosion of negotiations, so we will continue the negotiations carefully to resolve the challenges."
