Pres. Rouhani stresses need for continued cooperation between Tehran, Ankara

Tehran (IP) - Expressing hope for the successful holding of the Iran-Turkey Joint Economic Commission next month as a roadmap for economic and trade relations between the two countries, the Iranian President stressed the need to continue Tehran-Ankara regional cooperation.

Iran Press/Iran news: Hassan Rouhani in a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday evening, congratulating the government and people for the holy month of Ramadan, said: "Relations between the two countries are based on friendship and development. Cooperation between the two countries can help strengthen friendly relations and play a better role in the region."

The President considered the sincere and friendly relations with Turkey as a neighboring and Muslim country of great importance for Iran and emphasized the development and deepening of relations with this country in various political, economic, and trade fields.

Referring to the widespread outbreak of a new wave of COVID-19 in countries including Iran and Turkey, Rouhani stressed the need for the two countries to work together to fight the coronavirus and share experiences and capabilities in the field of the disease.

Referring to Tehran-Ankara cooperation in regional and international issues, including resolving the Syrian crisis through the Astana talks, the president stressed the continuation of this cooperation, noting: "Cooperation between Iran and Turkey as two important countries can be effective in resolving regional problems and crises."

He added: "Cooperation between the countries of the region is essential to ensure security, peace, and stability. We consider the Zionist occupier in the region dangerous and a serious confrontation with it is necessary."

In this telephone call, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also congratulated the government and people of Iran on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, emphasizing Ankara's serious will to develop and deepen friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
