Tehran (IP) - The Head of Iran's Central Bank (CBI) said his country expected the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to rapidly respond to Iran's legal demand without either discrimination, political lobbies, or pressure from the United States.

Iran PressIran News: Noting that IMF has so far provided more than $ 100 billion in loans to 85 countries, Hemmati said: "the IMF has lent nearly $ 16 billion to countries of the MENAP region, but Iran, which was one of the first countries to request emergency funds, has so far not received any facilities without any reasonable reason."

Referring to the US sanctions against Iran in a virtual meeting of IMF and the World Bank on Thursday, Abdolnaser Hemmati said that despite the US sanctions, Iran's latest economic growth in the first nine months of the Persian year 1399 was 2.2 percent, but like most developing countries, Iran needed financial resources to advance its policies.

"Unfortunately, in an administrative memo dated October 15, 2020, the CEO of the US group was ordered to oppose Iran's request for financial facilities," he said, " So, we see that one country decides to deprive another country of access to the financial resources needed to fight the impacts of COVID-19."
