Health sources in Japan have reported an increase in suicide rates in the country in 2020

Iran Press/Asia: The Japanese National Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) reported that Japanese authorities announced 21,000 suicides in 2020. This suicide rate is unprecedented since 2009.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Japan, the suicide rate (21,081 cases) in 2020 was four and a half percent (4.5%) more than in 2019.

Ministry officials have said the coronavirus pandemic may be one of the reasons for the growing concern among the population and their attempt to commit suicide.

Suicide among women has increased by 15% compared to 2019.

Suicides of people under 20 have increased by 44% and suicides of people aged 20 to 30 have increased by 32%. 219
