Gorgan (IP) - Iran's Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism said that the country's share of regional tourism was over 50 percent.

Iran PressIran news: In an interview with Iran Press on Tuesday, Aliasghar Mounesan said that regional tourism constitutes over %70 of international tourism with regional tourism constituting more than 50 percent of that, adding that the tourists coming to Iran were from Iraq and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Mounesan said that a significant number of the tourists coming to Iran were from neighboring countries with various goals including pilgrimage, tourism, and health.

"Pilgrimage tourism in Iran has developed to a hybrid tourism, that is in addition to the pilgrimage, visiting Iranian touristic attractions is also in the program of foreign tourists which brings good currency for Iran," he added. 

Mounesan also pointed to Nowruz's travels during the coronavirus pandemic and said: "Smart travel has been designed with detailed health protocols and announced to accommodation centers throughout Iran."
