Iran Press/Iran news: Attending his weekly press conference, Saeed Khatibzadeh responded to the Iran Press' question, saying that the Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney's meeting with President Hassan Rouhani regarding Iran-US relations was positive.
He added: "The issue between Iran and the United States is not about sending a signal, but the effective implementation of Resolution 2231 and the lifting of sanctions. These do not require signals and they are completely clear."
Khatibzadeh responded to another question of Iran Press correspondent regarding the Supreme National Security Council meeting before the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s meeting, noting that National Security Council meetings were held regularly and had definite agenda.
As the name represents, the meeting is private and its details will not be released through media except some parts, Foreign Ministry Spokesman concluded.
Iran has no direct, indirect contact with US
Elsewhere in his remarks, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said Iran had no direct or indirect contact with the United States on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or other issues.
Attending his weekly press conference, Saeed Khatibzadeh explained the latest foreign policy developments and answered reporters' questions.
"We had close talks with the JCPOA parties, and we did not have any talks with the United States," he said.
Asked about whether Iran would accept the step-by-step plan with the United States, he stated that Iran had never received a step-by-step plan, nor had it been based on a policy announced by Iran; there was no direct or indirect dialogue between Iran and the United States because JCPOA had shown the way.
In response to a question about the US Secretary of State's letter to the President of Afghanistan and the proposal to establish a mechanism in the presence of Iran and several other countries and the possibility of Iran agreeing to these talks, he said: "We have not had and will never have any direct or indirect contact with the United States on JCPOA or other issues."
"We have not yet received an invitation from the United Nations regarding Afghanistan, and we will review it after we receive it," he noted.
Afghanistan not Iran's negotiating table with anyone
He pointed out that Iran's view of friends was based on friendship, not exploitation, and added that Afghanistan was not Iran's negotiating table with anyone.
Regarding Iran's frozen assets in Iraq, Khatibzadeh said that Iraq had tried to pay its debts, and for several months, the payment route had been discussed between the Iran Central Bank and the Iraqi parties.
About the phone conversation between President Rouhani and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi, he stated that one of the discussed issues was the withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq, adding that Iraqi leaders and officials would better enforce Iraqi law.
He also expressed concern over the tragic crisis in Yemen, noting that millions of Yemenis were in dire need of food and water.
"For the past six years, Iran has always said that a ceasefire should be reached and the siege must be lifted. Saudi Arabia must end this devastating and unequal war as soon as possible. The way to resolve the Yemeni crisis is nothing but a political path, and the Yemeni National Salvation Government has repeatedly confirmed this," Khatibzadeh stressed.
