Tehran (IP) - Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI) said that the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) was one of the cheapest and fastest transit routes for goods between Asia and Europe.

Iran PressIran News: Saeed Rasouli during his speech at the Maritime India Summit 2021, while briefly introducing RAI and the valuable capabilities and opportunities of Iran's railways, said: "The performance of RAJA in the field of freight transportation in 2020 has been more than 34 billion tons-kilometers, of which 30% is allocated to the international transportation and 70% to the domestic transportation."

Rasouli noted: "It is predicted that an International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), could connect the countries of Nordic Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia through Iran with the countries of the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean, and Southeast Asia."

He considered the corridor as one of the cheapest and fastest transit routes for goods between Asia and Europe, saying: "The cost of transporting goods through the north-south corridor is up to 30% cheaper than other traditional routes."
