Tehran (IP)- The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a telephone call with the President of the Swiss Confederation, called for the development and deepening of Tehran and Bern's relations.

Iran PressIran News: In his conversation with Guy Parmelin, Hassan Rouhani stated, "With the further mobilization of economic and financial committees, which have been formed to pursue and improve the level of economic cooperation between the two countries, Tehran-Bern cooperation can be upgraded to an appropriate stage."

The President said: "Fortunately, the relations between Iran and Switzerland are in an acceptable situation, and we are seeking to facilitate the activities of Swiss companies that have continued their activities in Iran despite the US sanctions."

Rouhani also called for the necessary measures to ensure the effective operation of the Iran-Swiss financial channel and the implementation of contracts that have been suspended due to the previous US administration's policies and a step towards exploiting mutual capacities.

Dr. Rouhani also considered the redesigning of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) impossible and contrary to Security Council Resolution 2231 and said: "Tehran's strategy towards the JCPOA is quite clear. The lifting of sanctions by the United States, not just on paper but in practice, will lead to Iran's return to fulfilling its obligations.

"Now the ball is in America's court, and whenever the US effectively lifts illegal sanctions, everything will be on track," he said.

Rouhani also considered the Hormuz peace initiative as a step to encourage collective security in the region and welcomed any constructive and operational initiative by countries such as Switzerland and said: "If Iran sees the necessary will from other countries in the region, it is ready to take confidence-building measures."

Referring to the plight of the Yemeni people, the President called for an immediate ceasefire, the sending of humanitarian aid, the prevention of arms transfers to some countries in the region, and finally, the start of Yemeni-Yemeni talks as the final solution to restore peace and tranquility.

In this conversation, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, also stressed: "Bern wants to expand relations in areas of interest with Iran, and I will do my best to expand the cooperation."

Expressing satisfaction with the activities of Swiss companies in Iran, he pointed to the Swiss financial channel. He said: "We are committed to transferring Iranian assets in some countries to the channel."

The Swiss president also called the current situation in the international arena another opportunity for all parties in JCPOA to return to fulfilling their obligations and said that Switzerland was ready to work on this.

Parmelin also stressed the importance of returning security to Yemen and strengthening regional cooperation, saying that Iran, given its influential role in the region, could help restore peace in Yemen with other countries' help, including the European Union.
