Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh

Tehran (IP) - Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman said that Isfahan Metal Uranium Plant and its advanced fuel production, which is called Silicon Fuel, has peaceful usage.

Iran PressIran News: Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman said that the design information questionnaire of the Isfahan Metal Uranium Plant has not been submitted to the IAEA yet and this action will be done after making the necessary arrangements and within the deadline set by law.
Saeed Khatibzadeh, in response to reporters' questions about the recent statement of the three European countries said: "The operation of the Isfahan metal uranium plant and the production of advanced fuel (Silicon Fuel) for use in the Tehran research reactor are two completely different issues."

The Foreign Ministry spokesman added: "What the IAEA has reported is the start of research and development activities to design a more advanced fuel for Tehran's research reactor called Silicon Fuel."

"Iran informed the agency about its plan two years ago and recently provided the relevant design information," he added.

Criticizing baseless speculations in this regard, Khatibzadeh noted: "Metal uranium has peaceful uses, and now some countries are using metallic uranium-based fuel for their reactors, and this is not in conflict with the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the safeguards obligations of countries."
