Kalmaegi is one of the deadliest storms to hit the Philippines in recent years. The storm, locally known as Typhoon Tino, brought torrential rain and powerful winds that tore off roofs, uprooted trees, and downed power lines across central provinces.
Massive flooding has displaced more than 500,000 people and affected over 1.4 million residents in the Central Visayas region, including parts of Cebu province. More than 100 people were injured.
Kalmaegi is forecast to regain strength over the South China Sea before making landfall in Vietnam on Friday, where local authorities are on high alert and preparing evacuation shelters.
